Cairo Sightseeing You Will Never Forget
All of our 8-day Egypt tours begin with a private guided tour in Cairo, during which you will visit three of the most popular attractions:
- The Giza Pyramids
- The Egyptian Museum
- Khan el Khalili Bazaar
The Giza Pyramids
The Giza Pyramids are one of the most iconic archaeological sites in Egypt, and have been a popular tourist destination for countless years. Located on the Giza plateau to the west of Cairo, these ancient giants offer visitors an incredible glimpse into the history of ancient Egypt. The three main pyramids that make up the site are believed to have been built between 2550 BC and 2490 BC and were constructed as monuments to the Pharaohs Khufu, Khafra and Menkaure. The Great Giza Pyramid of Khufu is the oldest and largest of all three, standing at an impressive 146 meters tall. Besides the pyramids and the Sphinx, you will also have access to the Valley Temple while you are at this site.
There are the small and luxurious dahabiyas, which are gorgeous wooden boats powered by the wind and featuring enormous sails that dance in the breeze. They can be found with all of the finest, luxurious amenities but also hearken back to the early days of Egyptian travel. Wooden decks, open-air dining and lounging areas at the top decks, and elegant staterooms are all part of the experience.
There are also the larger, modern cruise ships with multiple decks, every possible amenity and even options such as salons, pools and more.
Choosing your preferred vessel is the first step in narrowing down the options in the many 7 night Nile cruises, and then you have to consider the itinerary that appeals to you the most.
Visitors can actually enter the pyramids at Giza although separate tickets need to be purchased at the site for each of pyramid you want to enter. Camel rides are also available at the site but be sure to haggle in order to get the best possible price if you choose to go for a camel ride.
If you feel you would like to enter one or more of the pyramids, then it is highly recommended that you wear a pair of sturdy walking shoes rather than a pair of sandals.
The Egyptian Museum
The Egyptian Museum, is located in central Cairo, Egypt and is one of the most famous and most significant museums in the world. It houses an extensive collection of artifacts and treasures from ancient Egypt. Until recently, the museum also housed the renowned collection of artifacts that were recovered from Tutankhamun’s tomb, along with a number of royal mummies. However, these have now been moved to the new Grand Egyptian Museum at Giza.
The museum is home to more than 100,000 artifacts, showcasing roughly 5,000 years of ancient Egyptian history, providing visitors with a captivating journey through Egypt’s rich history and culture. It is a must-visit destination for anyone interested in Egypt’s long and fascinating history.
Khan El Khalili Bazaar
The Khan El Khalili Bazaar, which is a famous marketplace located in Cairo, features in nearly all of our 8-day Egypt tours. It is one of the oldest and most vibrant bazaars, not only in Egypt but in the entire Middle East, and is best known for its bustling atmosphere and unique shopping experience. The bazaar dates back to the 14th century and it is an extremely popular destination for locals and tourists alike. Here, visitors can find a vast range of goods, including traditional handicrafts, jewelry, fabrics, spices, and souvenirs and tasty street food.
The narrow alleys are filled with shops and stalls, where vendors enthusiastically showcase their products. The lively ambiance, vibrant colors, and the scent of exotic spices create a sensory overload for visitors, making Khan El Khalili Bazaar a must-visit place for those exploring Cairo.
A Magical 5-Star Nile Cruise
Nearly all of our 8 day Egypt tour packages include a five-star Nile cruise, so after your unforgettable sightseeing tour in Cairo, enjoy one more night in Egypt’s bustling capital city, and then you will typically board a domestic flight to Aswan or Luxor Airport.
