Best of Cairo in Comfort and Style

All of our 14 day Egypt tours begin with a short stay in Cairo, during which you will enjoy one or more sightseeing tours. These are private tours that include your own private guide, driver and vehicle to get you around Egypt’s largest city with minimal hassle. All of our Cairo tours begin with a visit to one of the world’s most famous ancient sites, the ancient Giza necropolis which is home to the iconic Giza Pyramids and the Great Sphinx.

Visitors are actually allowed to enter all three of the Giza Pyramids but entry to the pyramids is not included in the price of a general admission ticket. Instead, visitors need to purchase a separate ticket for each pyramid they want to enter. Once you have finished at the pyramids, you are then taken to a good quality local restaurant for lunch. This is a great opportunity for you to try some good authentic Egyptian cuisine.

Following your visit to the Giza Plateau, you then head back to central Cairo to visit the Museum of Egyptian Antiquities, also known simply as the Egyptian Museum. This world famous museum is home to tens of thousands of ancient Egypt artifacts that showcase roughly 5,000 years of Egyptian history.

After your visit to the Egyptian Museum, you will then make your way to a part of the city known as Islamic Cairo where you will have some time to explore the enchanting Khan el Khalili Bazaar. Today, Khan el Khalili is one of Cairo’s most beloved historical sites with tens of thousands of locals relying on the bazaar for their daily shopping needs. Not only is the bazaar one of the biggest in the Middle East, but also one of the oldest, having been around since the late 14th century.

Many of our 14-day Egypt tours also include a trip to Saqqara which is a short drive from Cairo. Here, you will visit an ancient royal necropolis to see the Great Step Pyramid of pharaoh Djoser. This was the very first pyramid ever built by the ancient Egyptians. Unlike at the Pyramids of Giza, visitors can enter the Step Pyramid without having to buy any additional ticket. Once you have finished at the necropolis, your guide and driver will then transfer you back to your hotel in Cairo.

Magical Five-Star Nile River Cruises

A five-star Nile cruise from Aswan to Luxor or from Luxor to Aswan is hands down the very best way to see and explore some of the finest ancient monuments located on the east bank and west bank of the Nile River in Upper Egypt. No matter which one of our 14-day Egypt tours you choose, if your chosen itinerary includes a Nile River cruise, you will be visiting four fascinating destinations during your time on the water: Aswan, Kom Ombo, Edfu, and Luxor. At all four of these destinations you will enjoy professional Egyptologist guided excursions.

Aswan

All of the Nile cruise itineraries which feature in our 14-day Egypt tour packages will see you visiting three of the most popular tourist attractions in Aswan: the Aswan High Dam, the Unfinished Obelisk, and the magnificent Philae Temple. The Aswan High Dam is a true engineering marvel which has become a very popular tourist attraction. After visiting the dam to enjoy spectacular views of the Nile and Lake Nasser, you’re then taken to see the massive Unfinished Obelisk, which, if it had been completed, would have been the largest obelisk ever made by the ancient Egyptians. Your final stop during your tour in Aswan will be at the ancient temple of Philae. This magnificent ancient monument was moved to higher ground in entirety in order to prevent it being lost to the rising waters of Lake Nasser when the High Dam was being constructed.

Kom Ombo

Your cruise ship will also stop at Kom Ombo, where you will enjoy a guided excursion to Kom Ombo Temple. This ancient temple was essentially a twin temple complex that was dedicated to two different gods: Sobek the crocodile god and Horus the falcon-headed god. The complex consists of two identical halves. Because the temple was dedicated to two different gods, both halves had to be identical so as not to offend either of the two gods. It is believed to be the only twin temple complex ever built by the ancient Egyptians.

Edfu

Your cruise ship will also briefly stop at Edfu, where you will enjoy it a guided excursion to Edfu Temple, also known as the Temple of Horus. Like all the other temples you visit during your cruise, the Temple of Horus is also a UNESCO World Heritage site. Edfu Temple is also the best preserved ancient Temple in Egypt. This is because it was abandoned by the Romans and later became buried beneath the desert sand, and it remained that way for roughly 2,000 years.

Luxor East Bank

When your cruise ship docks in Luxor, you will enjoy two guided excursions, one on the east bank and one on the west bank. During these tours, you will visit three spectacular Egyptian temples, two gigantic stone statues, and an ancient Royal burial ground. During your east bank tour, you will visit Luxor Temple and Karnak Temple. Luxor Temple is one of Egypt’s best preserved temples, while Karnak Temple is the largest temple complex ever discovered in Egypt. Karnak Temple is also the largest place of worship ever built by man.

Luxor West Bank

Our west bank tours typically begin with a visit to Queen Hatshepsut Temple. This magnificent terraced complex was constructed to serve as a mortuary temple for Egypt’s only true Egyptian female ruler, Queen Hatshepsut. After visiting this impressive funerary temple, you then visit the Valley of Kings. This ancient royal burial ground is one of Egypt’s most visited historic sites, and home to more than 60 tombs, including the tomb of King Tutankhamun which was discovered and excavated by Howard Carter in the early 20th century. The last stop of your west bank tour will be at the Colossi of Memnon, two gigantic statues with a truly fascinating history.

Optional activities

Some of our 14 day Egypt tours may include a half day trip to Abu Simbel to see the magnificent rock-hewn temples of Ramses II while you are in Aswan. However, since this involves a relatively long drive, a half day trip to the Abu Simbel temples is generally offered as an optional extra. For those with bit of an adventurous nature, it’s also possible to enjoy an early morning hot air balloon ride over the ancient ruins, temples and tombs of Luxor.
