ITINERARY
On the day that your Cairo day tour is scheduled to begin, your English speaking guide will be waiting for you at your cruise exit gate, holding a sign with your name on it. Once you have met and greeted each other, your guide will then lead you to your waiting vehicle and then your exciting full day shore excursion will get underway with a 3-hour drive to Cairo, the bustling capital city of Egypt. Our tours to Cairo from Port Said begin with a visit to the legendary Pyramids of Giza and the famous Sphinx that has the head of a
pharaoh and the body of a lion.
Located at a massive necropolis at Giza, on the outskirts of Cairo, these iconic Egyptian pyramids never fail to amaze anyone who visits the site, and with an expert guide by your side your visit to this incredible site is going to be more amazing than ever. During your pyramids tour, you will visit all three major pyramids, the Valley Temple, and the Sphinx.
Pyramid of Khufu
The Pyramid of Khufu, also known as the Great Pyramid, is one of the most famous and well-preserved pyramids in Egypt. It is also the largest pyramid ever built in Egypt. Built during the 4th Dynasty of the Old Kingdom, the Great Pyramid is one of the 7 Wonders of the Ancient World, and the only one which is still standing and largely still intact.
Pyramid of Khafre
The pyramid of pharaoh Khafre is the second largest pyramid ever built in Egypt. This pyramid appears to be taller than the pyramid of Khufu, but this is only because it was constructed on higher ground. This pyramid complex is also home to the Valley Temple which originally served as a mortuary temple for the pharaoh and his family members.
Pyramid of Menkaura
Located a few hundred meters southwest of the two other major pyramids, the Pyramid of pharaoh Menkaura is the smallest of the three famous pyramids at the Giza pyramids complex. As with the other two pyramids, this pyramid was constructed during the 4th Dynasty to serve as a tomb for the pharaoh.
The Great Sphinx
The Great Sphinx was constructed roughly 4,500 years ago to guard pharaoh Khafre’s pyramid. As with the pyramids, the Sphinx is one of Egypt’s top tourist attractions. Your expert guide will tell you all about the history of this iconic landmark when you visit the site.
Optional Activities: at Giza
Entering the pyramids – Visitors are allowed to enter all three of the pyramids at Giza. However, in order to do so, an extra ticket must be purchased for each pyramid you want to enter.
Camel rides – A camel ride at the pyramids is an optional extra and is not included in the price of our tours to Cairo from Port Said.
Lunch Break and Egyptian Museum
After your visit to the Pyramids of Giza, you will be taken to a good quality local restaurant where you will have the opportunity to enjoy an Egyptian lunch and sample some delicious Egyptian cuisine. When you have finished eating, you will then make your way to the world famous Egyptian Museum.
This museum, located in the city center, is home to roughly 200,000 authentic artifacts that showcase 5,000 years of Egyptian history. Having a professional guide with you when you visit the Egyptian Museum is an absolute must if you really want to get the most out of your visit. Your guide will explain the rich history of all the most breathtaking Egyptian artifacts at the museum. This extensive collection of genuine artifacts never fails to impress anyone who visits this incredible museum.
Art of Paper Making Demonstration
Following your visit to the Egyptian museum, you will then be taken to see a demonstration showing how the ancient Egyptians made paper from reeds. A visit to one of these authentic workshops is rarely included in day trips to Cairo, including tours to Cairo from Port Said. Rest assured, the demonstration that you will see is both insightful and fascinating.
