Day 1 – Pick Up from Safaga Port/Transfer to Luxor/Luxor East Bank Tour
At the departure time that will have been confirmed with you, your guide and driver will arrive at Safaga Port and meet you at the cruise exit door. Your Safaga to Luxor tour then begins with a relaxing drive to Luxor, a journey which takes approximately 3 hours. On arrival at Luxor, you will make your way to the east bank where you will visit two breathtaking ancient temples.
Your first stop on the east bank will be at the sprawling Karnak Temple complex. Today, the Karnak Temple complex consists mostly of ruins and an incredible forest of breathtaking giant columns. Successive pharaohs added to the original complex over a period of roughly 2,000 years. The temple complex is the largest place of worship ever built by man. Besides the Giant pillars, you will also see some of the very best ancient Egyptian artwork in Egypt. Karnak Temple is now the second most visited tourist attraction in Egypt.
Next, you will make your way to the awe-inspiring Luxor Temple. This impressive temple features in nearly all Luxor sightseeing tours. Construction of the temple began during the reign of Amenhotep III of the 18th Dynasty at around 1400 BCE, and was then added to by pharaoh Ramses II and King Tutankhamun. Amongst the most striking features of this ancient temple, are two massive stone statues of pharaoh Ramses II which stand guard at the entrance.
Unlike other pharaonic temples in Luxor, Luxor Temple was not dedicated to any specific God. Instead, it was dedicated to the rejuvenation of kingship. When you visit the site, your professional tour guide will tell you all about the fascinating history of this remarkably well-preserved ancient temple.
Following your east bank sightseeing tour, your guide and driver will then transfer you to a good five star hotel in Luxor where you will be spending this night of your Safaga to Luxor tour.
Day 2 – Colossi of Memnon, Valley of Kings, and Hatshepsut Temple
Enjoy a delicious breakfast at your hotel, and then at the confirmed time, your guide and driver will meet you at your hotel. You will check-out from your hotel and then you will head to the west bank for some more incredible sightseeing that will see you visiting three of the area’s top historical sites.
First, you will visit the Colossi of Memnon, two colossal statues of Pharaoh Amenhotep III. These two massive statues once stood guard in front of the pharaoh’s mortuary temple, which at the time, was the largest temple complex in Thebes. Today, the Colossi of Memnon are all that remain of the original temple complex. It is believed that these two giant statues were constructed in honor of King Memnon who was killed in battle. Your guide will tell you more about the history of these two ancient relics when you visit the site.
Next you will visit Valley of the Kings, one of Egypt’s most famous and most significant archaeological sites. Valley of the Kings is an ancient royal burial ground where many pharaohs of the New Kingdom era were laid to rest. However, not all of the tombs in the valley belonged to royalty. Some also belonged to nobles and other high-ranking officials. The tombs vary from simple burial chambers to huge complexes with elaborately decorated Interiors.
Several of the tombs in the valley are open to visitors. Our private guided Safaga to Luxor tour includes admission to some of the tombs, but for some of the most famous tombs, such as the tomb of King Tutankhamun, visitors are required to purchase additional tickets at the site. If you wish to see inside the tomb of King Tutankhamun, you will need to purchase an additional ticket in person when you visit. Only a limited number of tourists are allowed inside his tomb each day and tour operators are no longer allowed to purchase entry tickets on behalf of their clients.
While the tomb of King Tutankhamun is by far and away the most famous in the valley, it is certainly not the most elaborate. Regardless of which tombs you visit and/or enter, a visit to the Valley of Kings is a fantastic opportunity to learn more about the history of the ancient Egyptian civilization.
Next, you will visit the breathtaking Mortuary Temple of Hatshepsut. Queen Hatshepsut Temple was one of the grandest temples ever built in Egypt. Today it is considered to be one of the “incomparable monuments” of ancient Egypt. It is definitely one of the most exquisite temples in Egypt, and your private tour guide will be right by your side when you visit to tell you all about its rich history and the history of the female pharaoh who had the breathtaking complex constructed.
Following your tour at the temple, your private tour guide will accompany you back to your private air condition vehicle, and then you will begin the 3-hour drive back to Safaga Port. On arrival at Safaga Port, your guide and driver will drop you off at your cruise entry/exit door. This marks the end of our two day Safaga to Luxor Tour.
